Recently one of our key directors, David Mackinder, has been working with the City of Boroondara to upgrade the Balwyn Community Centre site so that it might better meet the needs of the growing and increasingly diverse population to be inspired, grow, meet and escape in a vibrant place.
David was engaged by the Council’s Project Management Team to provide regular independent progress assessments of the remainder of works to provide certainty for the timing and planning of its transition to community.
Construction commenced in January 2019. The new centre has now opened to the Community in 2020 and will be a one-stop ‘hub’ to benefit the health and well-being of the local community with brand new state-of-the-art facilities that offer public training courses, a function centre, occasional child care, tennis court hire, and community gardens. The works completed by PSA in assessing the upcoming risks to the construction works have provided iframeive and critical assessment of the progress of critical path activities through regular monitoring and reporting.
This has supported the City of Boroondara in the construction works which included upgrades to the existing centre, which was originally a house, construction of a new exterior recreation and community space and an adjacent multi-storey building.
The site is located on busy Balwyn Road and is set back with landscaped zones that transition from active spaces into more secluded areas for quite reflection overlooking the natural waterways with large established native gum trees providing homes to the many wildlife. Special consideration was applied during works so as not to disturb Balwyn’s resident tawny frogmouths, Terry and Tracy.
