Project Description:
The MCG Northern Stands are being redeveloped into world class facilites to match with the Great Southern Stand (also project managed by PSA Project) The redevelopment will see approximatey 60% of the ground's seating transformed into state of the art facilities with a new members stand and additional top quality public areas. Total seating capacity will be 100,000 when the works are completed. The arena surface is also being reconstructed and works will include provisions or the Commonwealth Games opening and closing ceromonies and the athletics to be held at the MCG in March 2006.

PSA's Role:
PSA were originally engaged by the MCC in 1999 as Project Manager of the feasibility and design stages of the redevelopment of the MCG Northern Stand. Having successfully delivered the design of the project to a level of detail that was appropriate for tendering, SPM’s role was to then establish the means of project delivery/procurement management via:
- the use of design contract novation across to the builder as a means of fast-tracking the project and mitigating risk
- the use of positive contract clauses in the builder’s contract

After our detailed delivery of the procurement format, tender process and contract negotiations, SPM were further engaged by the MCC to be Project Manager over the construction phase. This phase is well underway and SPM have been:
- providing comprehensive and detailed risk identification, quantification, management and mitigation
- making strong use of our project monitoring and control systems in order to measure construction performance and report same to all stakeholders, including the building contractor.
- providing substantial service to the client and project in regards to the management of scope, communications, human resources, time and cost.
- strategically controlling the project delivery to minimise any risks to a successful project delivery in time for the Commonwealth Games.
