| Can Project Management be made easy?
The latest release of Microsoft Project 2002 has been accompanied by the slogan, 'project management made easy'. Now there is certainly no doubting MS Project as a widely used scheduling tool, but as any practising project manager is aware, there is a lot more to Project Management (PM) than a scheduling tool has to offer. It raises very relevant questions such as does MS Project align with the PMBOK®, does it assist the scope definition and risk management sufficiently with essentials such as communication planning and stakeholder management?
The fact that most organisations will turn to project management as a
direct consequence of crisis (as indicated by independent research1)
suggests that project management is not easy. PM is not a product you
can just buy, it is skills and a methodology that can to be adopted by
your organisation to be rewarding, and it plays a key role in project
operations at all levels. We would love to believe the Microsoft claim
of ‘project management made easy’ but we feel you will find
there is a lot more to it than that. We are very interested in your view
and would appreciate your feedback, so please take our project
management survey. We will even email you with the results if you
want so that you, too, can gain insights from it. |

| The Accidental Project Manager According to an independent survey1 performed worldwide on 1,867 workplace executives, ‘Accidental project managers’ are an increasing phenomenon in the workplace with almost 2/3 of employees in project manager roles professing to a lack of qualifications or training in the area.
The strategic void that is so often filled by ill-equipped ‘accidental project managers’ can cost a company large sums of money in incomplete projects and failed deadlines. It is not surprising that 58% of the surveyed project managers agreed that their projects rarely meet time and cost targets. So how can these figures be improved in your organisation? How can you reap the competitive advantage gained with consistent project success? By the use of solid PM aids that allow your staff to empower themselves with project management methodology (see below). [Click

| And the answer is.... Do you know what the answer is to successful project management? We have been carrying out surveys on this topic since the 1980’s. A very widely referred to survey we carried out in 1989 (our second of many) is still quite current. At the time it was written up in PC Week (click for original PDF of article) amongst a range of journals.
The graph included here was published at the time and we believe is still very relevant over 12 years later. [Click for full article] Our latest survey aims to deal with the more relevant questions for project management in 2002. We are very interested in your view and would appreciate your feedback, so please take our latest project management survey. We will even email you with the results if you want so that you, too, can gain insights from it. |
