The MCG Redevelopment has commenced!

MCG President and Secretary sign on the dotted line
MCC President and Secretary Bruce Church and Stephen Gough sign the contract

[From PSA Project newsletter July 2002]
All is now in place for the MCG Redevelopment to begin the implementation phase. Steinfort Project Management @ mcg, the project managers on behalf of the Melbourne Cricket Club, has been with the project since inception.

Wednesday 26th June 2002, the premier Steve Bracks announced the winning tenderer for the Project, Grocon Construction, at a formal event to commence the $430m construction project. Steinfort Project Management @ mcg has managed the project to this point, providing the foundation for delivery of the project to meet the seating capacity objectives and time lines for the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

Bruce Church later also congratulated the Steinfort Project Team on delivering the MCG redevelopment project on behalf of the Melbourne Cricket Club after what was a very difficult and demanding period of negotiation. He went on to state that they were extremely proud of the new MCG and looked forward to working with The Steinfort group as this wonderful project unfolds. See his testimonial.

Australia's most prestigious stadium has been given the official go ahead for redevelopment. In a historic moment the contract between developers Grocon and the MCC for the $400 Million redevelopment of the Members Pavilion, Ponsford Stand and Olympic Stand has been signed.

The result will be a superb stadium bringing Australian sport into the 21st century, high tech in every respect and catering to every spectators need.

The Grollo's follow suit, signing in tendem
Adam and Daniel Grollo enter the historic contract commitment

The construction of the stadium is now contracted and demolition of the Ponsford stand is scheduled to commence immediately after this years AFL Grand Final. Steinfort Project Management @ mcg's expert project planning and contract development has been key to making the project achievable given the tight time frame caused by the ensuing Commonwealth Games, budget constraints and minimum capacity requirements.

The minimum capacity requirement during the construction period is 70,000 spectators, and around 80,000 capacity is planned for each of the AFL Grand Finals until completion. Steinfort Project Management @ mcg have carefully planned the entire project to maximise capacity at all times with construction to occur in several stages. After the Commonwealth Games the ground will seat 100,000 spectators, 4000 up from the current capacity of 96,000.

So the contract has been signed, and the 4 year construction journey culminating in the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony has commenced.

A successful project management team
A successful contract resolution team

The project has been planned using a tried and true proven project management methodology, tight alignment with the leading PM standards combined with PSA Project's expert experience to ensure that every base of project management is covered and no stone is left unturned. This methodology is available as an online software service at this website and you can access that at your own pace to understand the process used here.

Of interest also is that the contract developed by the project team is a "positive novation" contract that delivers manageable responsibility and risk to the contractor but still encourages co-operative problem solving and planning. For more information on this very effective form of contract please contact us.

There are more details and exclusive photographs of the event in the online portfolio section of the website. Contact us if you want further details of how we can provide the benefit of the MCG experience to your projects.
