Late 2017 saw the successful completion ahead of programme of the new medical facility at Victoria’s Loddon medium security prison. This challenging project saw construction being completed inside the operational prison, replacing the existing medical facility whilst continuing to provide vital medical services.
PSA was engaged during the design process to develop a feasible overall implementation strategy and construction staging programme which could be agreed with the operational management.
It was critical for the construction staging to inform the schematic design process with details required to be resolved to allow the building to operate in a partially constructed state. The staging programme was then applied to the market place during the tender process where it enabled an agreed method of staging to be priced. This provided a like for like comparison and a value for money evaluation to be completed.
PSA congratulates the project team and the contractor for completing these works ahead of schedule in a high-risk environment. This project is a testament to setting out upfront a workable, practical programme of works with specific, measurable deliverables.
