The Research

Recently, Paul Steinfort was awarded a Doctorate in Understanding the Antecedents of Project Management Best Practice - Lessons from Aid / Relief Projects.  This research drew on the results of his 40 years in practice and education in this area.

Paul's extensive experience in practice, together with a scholarship from RMIT University Melbourne and a research grant from the Global Project Management Institute (PMI - over 600,000 members worldwide), enabled global research into a range of projects and programs. In particular focus were aid and relief projects, and, the common success criteria for any type of project.

Both Derek and Tayyab were  supervisors for Paul's thesis.

Why?

  • Why do we "do" projects? What is their purpose?
  • Is there something different or special about aid relief projects that we can learn from?
  • Can traditional project management approaches offer such projects something specific?

These are valid and interesting questions for the project management (PM) discipline to address - and were exactly what Paul Steinfort's PhD delivered.
